Topic: How the Rules of Professional Conduct Apply to You
While New Jersey’s Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) direct the behavior of attorneys within the context of the practice of law, those same rules apply, at least indirectly, to paralegals. The RPCs establish boundaries for paralegals and guidelines for the attorneys supervising them. By understanding these rules, paralegals can avoid the unauthorized practice of law and attorneys can avoid becoming the subject of an ethics complaint.
